When I nudge or drag objects they "jump"

This is because you have either (or both) "Snap objects to grid" or "Snap objects to other objects" ticked in View > Grids and Guides. This is often useful in aligning objects and we don't reccomend unticking the "Snap to grid" option.

However it can also be annoying when you are trying to move things in small increments and they suddenly leap to the next grid intersection!

To nudge with the arrow keys, ignoring the "snap to":

Hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the arrow keys

To drag, ignoring the "snap to":

Hold down the Alt key while dragging
